A Deeply
Personal Project

Grief is love persevering. For Dinn Dizon, the cafe began as a way forward together after the loss of his mother. After the pandemic in 2022, Dinn, his sibling, and his wife, Ellie, found themselves spending more time together. Out of the togetherness an idea bloomed. They searched for something meaningful they could build side by side. Coffee has always been part of their bond as a family. They were cafe-hoppers before they were cafe owners, and opening their own shop in Amadeo felt like a natural extension of that shared passion.

Today, the cafe serves many purposes. It’s a place for meetings, casual catch-ups, work sessions, and even quiet reflection, alone or together. It’s also the family’s second home, where they spend time together after long days, managing the cafe while staying connected to each other and their team. What started as a small idea now supports 15 staff members, two administrative roles, and three hands-on owners.

The layout allows the couple to see across the room, from one bedroom to another, creating a sense of connection even within a large space. Garden, a gazebo, and greenery blur the line between indoors and outdoors, while paintings collected over the years tell the story of a life well-lived.

“This house is a contribution of everybody,” Edith explains. “[We considered] what they want to be part of their home, because they also live here.”

The Tanquiluts admit that the process wasn’t always easy. There were moments of doubt, some trial and error in the planning stage, and changes along the way. But when the house was finally completed, the realization came quietly and clearly: “This was exactly what we had wanted.”

Comfort And Function,
All At Once

Design played a key role in shaping this experience. About 30 percent of the cafe is indoor dining, while 70 percent is dedicated to al fresco seating. This balance was intentional. Dinn and Ellie wanted the customers to experience Amadeo’s weather with its cool air, gentle breeze, and natural calm that define the area. Outdoor seating feels liberating, with so many plants to look at. The indoor seating doesn't feel separated or closed off from the outside, thanks to the open windows.

As Dinn emphasizes, “You can really feel the outdoors no matter where you are in the cafe. That's what we try to avoid ruining the unique feeling of chilling outdoors."

The place was intended to welcome everyone. "It's warm, intimate, and comforting. We wanted the space to be personalized, not just styled or aesthetic,” Ellie shares. Every design choice was guided by feeling as much as function. Materials were based on complementary colors and texture, with a stress on practicality, with each piece serving a purpose beyond looks. Warm tones, durable surfaces, and easy-to-maintain finishes helped create a cafe that feels welcoming and lived-in.

The Right Foundation Matters

Wilcon Depot played an important role in bringing their vision to life. Since the start of their building journey, the owners relied on Wilcon as their primary source for construction and finishing materials. Floor tiles from Saigres were carefully selected to balance durability and warmth, able to handle daily foot traffic while still feeling inviting. Countertops were chosen for long-term use in a cafe environment. Restroom tiles from Basel were matched thoughtfully, ensuring continuity in design and practicality.

The tiles were matched manually by the owners during their visits to Wilcon Depot. “It became our place to sample [materials]. We got almost everything from there. It was so convenient because it’s a one-stop shop,” says Dinn.

It helped that the nearest branch was just 3 kilometers away from their home, so shopping was always easy. Alphalux Spotlight lighting fixtures from Wilcon were used throughout the space to be bright and functional for a busy and bustling space such as Cafe Carolina. Kaze Tenjo Ceiling Fans helped the space maintain airflow, especially in indoor and semi-open areas, while sanitaryware fixtures from Pozzi, such as faucets, basins, urinals, and water closets, were selected for reliability and ease of maintenance. Even the electrical essentials, switches, outlets, and fittings were sourced from Wilcon, ensuring consistency and quality across the entire space.

For Dinn and Ellie, Wilcon’s value went beyond excellent product selection. With multiple responsibilities outside the cafe, they needed a place where everything can be sourced efficiently. Wilcon’s wide range of options allowed them to compare finishes, test combinations, and visualize the space in real-time.

Equally important was the support they received. “The trust to build your business with them is there,” according to Dinn.

Wilcon staff guided them through selections, offered suggestions, and ensured availability. Ellie recalls a time when the cafe was still in progress, when she had to visit Wilcon but was delighted to be guided by the staff without judgment, even if she had no professional background. For Dinn, who works as a professional, choosing Wilcon as a partner for the creation of Cafe Carolina was a no-brainer, as he already knows that he can trust the store for quality.

Today, Cafe Carolina reflects everything they hoped it would be. As a space, it’s warm, intentional, and functional with a soul. Regulars return for the coffee and the feeling, a shared understanding that this place was apparently built with care.

"What's important in this space is the heart. Because at the end of the day, it's not the outcome or the amount of coffee you sell. What's important is the relationship you've built and how strong it is. What we’ve been through, we built it here,” shares Dinn.

Cafe Carolina stands as a continuation of love, family, and shared effort. And with trusted partners like Wilcon Depot supporting its foundation, it stands as proof that meaningful spaces are built with intention.

The Reward of a Lifetime

Asked what the home means to her, Edith answers without hesitation. “It’s a picture of our accomplishments—what we wanted our house to be.”

She jokes that with views this beautiful, the house could never cause stress. Even if they were to live there for only a few years, she says, she would have no regrets. The home already carries enough meaning—and can one day be passed on to their children.

For Gil, fulfillment comes from hearing what visitors say: that the house feels peaceful and light. He feels the same way. “You feel validated,” he says with a smile.
