The journey of the Dacanays into the hospitality industry began with humble beginnings. “We had a rice store below this hotel before it was built, named Dacanay Rice Commercial,” Erlinda shares. Inspired by the success of their previous venture, E&E Valley High, an apartelle catering to budget travelers, the couple envisioned a grander project– one that would not only reflect elegance but also benefit the community. "We thought, let's make this a hotel—more elegant than the last, while still helping the community," adds Emilio.
Even the hotel’s name reflects their heritage. “‘Emerald’ is derived from a combination of our names, Emil and Erlinda Dacanay, while ‘Grains’ represents our roots in the rice industry,” Emilio explains. “We didn’t want our name to be generic. We wanted to be unique, hence, the name Emerald Grains.”

Emerald Grains Hotel, which opened to the public in 2023, embodies the couple’s meticulous attention to detail, brought to life with the help of Wilcon Depot. Their frequent visits to Wilcon Depot Villasis, Pangasinan not only inspired the hotel’s design but also ensured that every aspect met the highest standards. “Whenever we’re frustrated with the design process, a trip to Wilcon instantly lifts our spirits. Seeing their showrooms inspires us,” shares Emilio. He even credits one of Wilcon's showrooms for the design of his office ceiling in the hotel.
The partnership with Wilcon Depot proved pivotal in shaping the Emerald Grains Hotel. The hotel’s elegant yet homey lobby greets guests with a warm ambiance created by Alphalux Downlights, in a sleek sand black finish. These lights cast a welcoming glow that mirrors the hotel’s ethos of heartfelt hospitality. To complement this, textured P.Tech Wall Panels in the elevators and accent walls further elevate the interiors, balancing modern sophistication with warmth.
For Emilio, the hotel’s overall design would not have been possible with the collaborative exchanges he shared with other professionals. Each floor of the hotel reflects this synergy, with the lobby floors thoughtfully outfitted with Saigres Indoor Tiles and the hallways adorned with Sol Ceramica Wood Floor Tiles. This careful interplay of textures elevates the space’s neo-classic charm, bringing his vision to life. “I think having a creative partner might have made things easier at times, but I’m proud of what we achieved. It’s amazing to see these ideas come together,” Emilio shared, reflecting on the journey of turning his ideas into reality.
Each of the 39 rooms, including Deluxe Rooms, Double Deluxe Rooms, and Suite Units, is designed to ensure comfort and style. Cifre Wood Floor Tiles imbue the rooms with an inviting warmth, while Saigres Matte Floor Tiles provide a durable yet stylish foundation for the walls and floors of the bathrooms. Guests have praised the hotel’s neo-classic design, with some comparing it to a “Mini Shangri-La” or “Manila Hotel vibes,” much to Emilio’s delight.
The couple’s frequent trips to Wilcon made selecting high-quality materials both enjoyable and essential. From large format tiles to lighting fixtures and wall panels, Wilcon depot offered a comprehensive range of premium products that met the Dacanays’ high standards. “Wilcon stands out for the variety and quality of their products,” Erlinda shares. “Whenever we needed guidance, their staff were always accommodating and helped us refine our vision.”

Emerald Grains Hotel isn’t just about luxurious accommodations; it’s about heartfelt service. The couple’s daughter, Karen, who oversees marketing, shares that the hotel aims to make the guests feel at home. “Our staff upholds the principle of ‘Do unto others as you want to be done unto you.’ This is what makes the experience sincere and special. When they come here, they feel at home as if they were our friends or even like family members.”
Emilio believes the hotel’s uniqueness also lies in its story. “What makes us stand out is that this hotel is built from our hard work retailing rice. We don’t have business partners– what we earn from rice bit by bit, that’s what we use for capital to establish this hotel. It’s not just about profit; it’s about passion and helping our community.”
Looking Ahead
The Emerald Grains Hotel continues to dream big. Future plans include the addition of a spa-inspired hot spring area, where the Dacanays intend to continue their collaboration with Wilcon Depot to bring their vision to life. “You won't have a hard time thinking at Wilcon because all the materials you might need are there,” Emilio shares enthusiastically. They’re also excited to explore the latest La Trinidad branch for their upcoming projects.
Today, the hotel stands not only as a symbol of family heritage but as a testament to the enduring partnership between the Dacanays and Wilcon Depot– a partnership that turns dreams into exceptional spaces.
