Mufasa Cafe:
Thoughtful Design Built in a Blink
April 10, 2026
Some spaces take months—sometimes years—to come together. Others happen in a matter of hours, driven by instinct, timing, and a boldness that refuses to wait.
Perched atop Mufasa Tower in Lemery, Batangas, Mufasa Café is one of those rare stories where everything seems to align almost too perfectly. Opened on March 15, 2026, the café may be new, but the story behind it already carries the weight of something much bigger.
The Impossible Timeline
A chance encounter happened when the cafe’s manager, Patrick Cuasay, had gone to the building to process a notarized document. A quick errand. In and out. But somewhere between the second-floor law office and the rest of the building, he met the owner, Lionel. A self-proclaimed “king,” Lionel was drawn to the symbolism of Mufasa from The Lion King—strength, leadership, and the power of standing at the top. Looking out from the building’s highest point, the idea came instantly.
That same day in January, he challenged Patrick: come up with a café concept in three hours, and the space would be his to build. For many, it would have been overwhelming. For Patrick, it was an opportunity too rare to refuse.
Contrast & Curiosity
What followed was a process that most would consider impossible. With no time for second guesses and barely any measurements taken, the concept was executed almost entirely on instinct. Within three weeks, the space was built. By the fourth, Mufasa Cafe was open to the public.
It wasn’t perfect—and it didn’t need to be. Even now, parts of the outdoor area are still being completed. But the café is alive, evolving in real time.
Materials were chosen not just for aesthetics, but for speed, durability, and ease of installation. Large-format tiles and ready-to-install surfaces allowed construction to move quickly without sacrificing quality.
Large-format, easy-install surfaces like the Arte Ceramiche Anti-Slip Floor Tile helped speed up flooring while ensuring safety in high-traffic areas, especially with their textured grip and low-maintenance finish. “It was challenging at first,” Patrick admits. “But I took it. I wanted to experience it.”
Having previously handled other coffee shops as both manager and interior designer, he approached this project differently. This time, he focused on operations, building the team, training staff, and setting the tone, while still shaping the space through quick, decisive choices.

The Mesmerizing View
Originally, the vision leaned toward warm wood tones, a natural choice inspired by the first pieces they saw while sourcing materials. But the existing structure of the space, particularly the ceiling and walls, couldn’t be altered.
They adapted to what was already there. The result is a layered interior of black and gray tones, softened by wooden furniture and textured elements. Seating choices like the Heim Tamisha Brown 2-Seater Sofa and Heim Betina Scandinavian Style Dining Chairs bring in warmth through wood textures and ergonomic comfort. Paired with pieces like the Heim Maxene 4-Seater Dining Table and Heim Zia 2-Seater Dining Set, the layout feels cohesive: functional for everyday use and visually appealing.
Walls in the counter were treated with P.Tech 3D Acoustic Wall Panel, adding depth and texture. Also helping in managing the sound within the cafe, it’s an overlooked detail that improves overall customer experience.
There are also moments of quiet curiosity, like Alphalux post lamps placed indoors, subtly catching attention and making people pause. “We want customers to be curious,” Patrick explains. “Why is there a post lamp inside? Why does it feel different?” It is in these quiet surprises that the café finds its personality.
Fast & Focused Direction
The cafe itself, as they describe it, is still growing. “It’s like he’s still Simba,” he says. Named after a king, but still in its early stages, learning, evolving, and open to feedback.
While food and drinks can always evolve, there is one thing the team believes is non-negotiable. “You can adjust the food, you can adjust the drinks,” Patrick explains. “But when it comes to the view we can offer to our customers, it’s the best.” And it shows. Even as a newly opened cafe still finding its rhythm, the space feels alive. A few customers here and there, natural light pouring in, and an elevated view of Taal Basilica tying everything together, it’s enough to make people stay a little bit longer.
Lighting plays a big role in enhancing. A mix of Alphalux Post Lamps, cob lights, and track lighting systems creates layers, from ambient to focused illumination. With LED bulbs in varying wattages and color temperatures, the cafe can shift from bright daytime clarity to warmer and relaxed evenings.
Anchored By Reliable Source
With such a tight timeline, sourcing was critical. For Mufasa Café, that meant relying on a single, consistent partner: Wilcon Depot.
“Everything. Really everything,” Patrick emphasizes.
This consistency in the store helped streamline decisions, especially when time was limited. Instead of jumping between suppliers, they were able to build the space cohesively using readily available materials. Statement pieces like the Heim Tisa Outdoor Bar Table and Heim Bourbon Bar Chairs became casual seating options outdoors, ideal for maximizing the cafe’s elevated view. Accent furniture such as the Heim Lotus Console and Center Table helped define the space without overcrowding and maintaining an open, breathable layout.
Worth The Risk
For Patrick, the experience was proof of what’s possible when you take a chance, but stay grounded in reality.
Mufasa Café is proof of what can happen when preparation meets opportunity. “It was so worth it. A very good trade for me.”
Still, he offers grounded advice: not every risk is worth taking blindly. “It’s not best to gamble while being unsure.”
But sometimes, the right moment comes—when instinct, experience, and courage align. And when it does, something remarkable can happen. Mufasa Café is one of those moments. A space built in a blink—yet destined to grow, evolve, and inspire.
